FREE Portrait Demonstration by Wes Benson

During this 2 hour demontration Wes Benson will demonstrate and discuss the basics of portrait drawing, he will talk about the importance of composition and proportion. Wes will demonstrate how effective “mark making” can help simplify and effectively render facial features. While working on a medium - value paper, Wes will use both black and white pencils to construct a likeness using both shadow and highlight. Wes completed his MFA at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City in 2010 and earned his Art History degree at the University of Kansas. Wes is currently teaching in the Illustration department of the Kansas City Art Institute. He has exhibited in both Kansas City and New York City. His paintings are typically oil paint over a bright acrylic base on either canvas or wood panel.
